The car is finished in Baroque Gold and was stripped and repainted by Rust Busters of Atlanta under previous ownership. Features include a white vinyl roof, a cowl hood, chrome bumpers, quad headlamps, a black grille and tail panel, body-colored SS 396 badging, and a dual-outlet exhaust that exits below the rear bumper.
Gold-accented 14″ Super Sport wheels wear SS center caps and chrome trim rings and are mounted with F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas white-letter tires. A full-size spare and jack are mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and the F41 performance suspension package, which consisted of a thicker front sway bar, a rear sway bar, and boxed front control arms. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features two rows of bench seats reupholstered in parchment vinyl joined by color-coordinated door panels. Equipment includes air conditioning, polished door sills, black lap belts, Chevrolet-branded rubber floor mats, floor vents, a rear speaker, and a push-button AM radio. The ignition switch and air conditioning receiver drier were replaced, and the system was converted to utilize R134a refrigerant in 2022.
The two-spoke SS steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges. The instrument cluster bulbs were replaced by the selling dealer. The five-digit odometer shows 1,900 miles, a handful of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The L34 396ci V8 was rebuilt under previous ownership and factory rated at 350 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Work in 2022 consisted of rebuilding the carburetor and starter, cleaning the ignition points, setting engine timing, performing a fluid service, and replacing the alternator belt, spark plugs, and ignition wires.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle with 3.31:1 gears. The transmission and rear axle were rebuilt under previous ownership, and the transmission pan gasket was replaced in 2022. A replacement Gardner dual exhaust system has been installed.
Two build sheets, a dealer invoice, a Protect-O-Plate, a letter from the original owner, and manufacturer’s literature are included in the sale.
A Jerry MacNeish Certificate of Authenticity was received in 2019 and the multi-page report can be viewed in the gallery below.
