Finished from the factory in Starlight Black (19), the car was repainted during current ownership and features Hurst T-top roof panels, gold pinstriping, headlight coves, and a Trans Am hood decal. Additional features include honeycomb grille inserts, fender vents, a decklid spoiler, and a gas cap located behind the rear license plate. The rear filler panel, floor panels, and rear quarter panels were replaced during the refurbishment.
Gold-accented 15″ cast-aluminum wheels wear Firebird-branded center caps and are mounted with GR 70-15 Goodyear Steel Belted Radial white-letter tires. A space-saver spare is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with power steering and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench reupholstered in black velour joined by a color-coordinated dashboard, console, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, a passenger grab-handle, black rubber floor mats, and a push-button AM/FM stereo. The key buzzer and cigarette lighter are not operational.
The leather-wrapped Formula steering wheel with gold accents frames a machine-turned aluminum instrument panel housing a 100-mph speedometer, a tachometer with an inset clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 68k miles, approximately 800 of which have been added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The gauges were rebuilt and the aluminum instrument panel and lenses were polished during the refurbishment.
The 400ci V8 was rebuilt during current ownership with work consisting of a .030″ overbore, replacing the piston rings and bearings, resizing the connecting rods, adding hardened valve seats, performing a three-angle valve job, resurfacing the cylinder heads, and balancing the rotating assembly.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and a Positraction rear axle with 3.08:1 gears. The transmission, torque converter, and rear axle were rebuilt during current ownership. The rear axle housing is said to have been sourced from a 1978 Firebird.
The factory build sheet shows colors and equipment including the custom air conditioning (C60), the Y82 Special Appearance Package, AM/FM stereo radio (U58), cruise control (K30), tilt column (N33), and power windows (A31).
The 2021 MCACN Concours Gold and MCACN Invitational Display certificates, two issues of Hemmings Muscle Machines, a 2022 calendar, display boards, PHS documents, a car cover, MCACN judging sheets, and refurbishment photos and invoices are included in the sale.
