•Bring a friend or family member when going to inspect a vehicle

•Verify the VIN and request a vehicle history report (e.g., Carfax) before purchasing

•Have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle before finalizing the purchase

•Never wire money or send prepayment before seeing the vehicle in person

•Complete the title transfer at a local DMV or notary office

•Trust your instincts - if a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is
